Annual Rabies Tag System  

To assist pet owners in complying with Chatham County's Animal Control Ordinance, Chatham County has adopted the following procedures. Pet tags are renewed annually within thirty (30) days of each annual rabies inoculation. Tags may be obtained:

  • Through the mail
    Addressed to: P.O. Box 9522, Savannah, GA 31412

  • In person:
    Chatham County Department of Building Safety - 1117 Eisenhower Drive Savannah, GA 31405 [Map & Directions]

    Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved the following fee structure. License fees for dogs and cats will range from $5.00 to $35.00 per animal depending on whether or not the pet has been spayed or neutered.

The fees are as follows:

Un-neutered male dog $35.00 Neutered male dog $5.00
Un-neutered female dog $35.00 Neutered female dog $5.00
Un-neutered male cat $35.00 Neutered male cat $5.00
Un-neutered female cat $35.00 Neutered female cat $5.00

Vaccination and Licensing Fine  

Article II Dogs and Cats Generally : Section 22-201
2 a. Any person owning a dog or cat and does not comply with this shall be in violation of this ordinance, provided that a person shall register his or her dog or cat within thirty (30) days of the rabies vaccination, or thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of Chatham County. Non-compliance and the issuance of an ordinance citation shall result in a set fine of $15.00.

Effective July 1st – Dec. 31st, all new business and alcoholic beverage licenses fees are prorated half (1/2).

Regarding the recent memorandum released by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division (EPD) dated April 22, 2014 and titled ‘Buffer Determinations for Tidal Creeks and Saltwater Marshes Under the Erosion and Sedimentation Act’.

Business Tax License Return must be filed and tax paid by March 1st to avoid penalty; add the greater of $25 or 10% if renewed after due date.

Alcoholic Beverage License must be filed on or before January 31 to avoid 50% late penalty.
